Optofluidics

The intersection between the microfluidic systems and the optical devices leads to an area now called “Optofluidics”. We have developed many opto-fluidic systems for spectroscopy and for tuning of optical sources and described these in papers. A recent publication describes the development of a tunable dye laser based on fluidic pumping of laser dye through microfabricated channels which include diffraction gratings for single-mode operation. This laser can be tuned by mechanically stretching the grating in the elastomer, and can be used as a disposable optofluidic light source for spectroscopy.
